Next generation display interface UDI

In this year IDF2006 General Assembly, the processor giant Intel demonstrated its next generation R & D display output interface "UDI" (Universal Display Interfaces, Universal Display Interface). It will replace the aging VGA analog standard and is compatible with DVI standard. UDI will be compatible with high definition multimedia interface (HDMI), which is used for HDTV and advanced CE displays the standard digital interface. UDI will be able to use High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) technology, now the technology has been widely used in HDMI-compatible products. Therefore, with UDI connectors will be able to connect to the host platform support HDMI monitors and display devices, including support content rights management and compatibility with high definition video HDTV.
However, the HDMI interface and compared to the current, Intel removed the UDI interface to sound transmission. And alleged, UDI interface HDMI cheaper than the price, manufacturers only need to pay each year a $ 15,000 annual fee only, no need to pay royalties for each UDI products. Nowadays the UDI Center has set up a special interest group (SIG), to amend UDI standards. SIG's main members include: Apple, Intel, LG Electronics, the U.S. National Semiconductor, Samsung Electronics and Silicon Image, other members include Nvidia, THine Electronics, FCI, Foxconn Electronics and JAE Electronics.
Comments: Although the UDI alliance aims to introduce an alternative interface to VGA, but not a blank digital video interface, already has two interface standards: DVI and HDMI, the latter of which provides a richer set of features such as unified remote control, and copyrightprotection functions, so there are industry experts pointed out that Intel's real cheap to sell UDI interface to counter the HDMI, and PC industry has a "home media center PCs," the strategy of backing, then UDI, DVI and HDMI digital video interface standard three melee must be inevitable.
